SUMMARY:VOCES8 Foundation Choir & Orchestra perform ROSE EVER BLOOMING via Live From London
DESCRIPTION:Join VOCES8 and friends as they celebrate the season with a selection-box of beautifully sung carols and songs from across Europe and the USA. Learn more about all streamed programming available at Live From London. \nRose Ever Blooming is a new Christmas oratorio by composers Jocelyn Hagen and Timothy C. Takach that honours the role of Mary in the story of Jesus\, celebrating the strength of family and the enduring bond between mother and son. Inspired by the poetry of Patricia Monaghan\, the work interweaves twelve of her poems with traditional carols\, illuminating Mary’s humanity and portraying her as a reluctant hero reflecting on her life from the Annunciation to her own Beatitudes. Conducted by Barnaby Smith and performed by the VOCES8 Foundation Choir & Orchestra\, this beautifully crafted work explores the divine and the everyday through a profoundly human lens. The performance was filmed at the recording sessions at St Jude-on-the-Hill\, Hampstead Garden Suburb\, capturing the warmth and spiritual intimacy of this remarkable new addition to the Christmas repertoire.

SUMMARY:Santa Fe Desert Chorale Peforms Caminante (Traveler)
DESCRIPTION:Get a sneak peak at the Santa Fe Desert Chorale’s upcoming commercial album live in concert! At the heart of this program lies The American Road: Six Songs of the Enslaved\, Embattled and Emancipated by Nigerian-American composer Shawn E. Okpebholo. In this new large-scale work\, Okpebholo reimagines folk songs and spirituals—including an original by Rhiannon Giddens—that both honor the pain and resilience of the past and inspire hope for the future. Be among the first to hear this momentous work paired alongside commissions from our recent past\, which we plan to include in a new album coming in 2026. Kile Smith’s Northland infuses the poetry of Harlem Renaissance writer Claude McKay with jazz\, blues\, and melodic lyricism to describe the Jamaican immigrant’s experiences in his new home. The bilingual work Caminante (Traveler) by Jocelyn Hagen exemplifies musically and poetically the miracle of people from all walks of life coming together as fellow travelers. The Tipping Point by Indian-American composer Reena Esmail combines Western and Indian musical techniques to portray the constant struggle between light and darkness\, and that miraculous moment of the scale tipping in favor of light. Pianist Nathan Salazar and tabla player Sutanu Sur join the twenty-four Desert Chorale vocal artists for a journey through American choral music. \n  \nThursday\, July 24 @ 7:30 PM\nVenue: Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi \nSunday\, July 27 @ 4 PM\nVenue: Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi \nFriday\, August 1 @ 7:30 PM\nVenue: Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi \n\n\n\nFREE Pre-Concert Lecture Video\nPresented by Dr. Marques Jerrell Ruff \n\nLearn more here.
