Cantabile Youth Choirs of Silicon Valley has awarded Hagen a prestigious commission in honor of their 25th anniversary season and invitation to perform at the World Choral Symposium in Aukland, New Zealand, in July of 2020.
These incredible young singers under the direction of Elena Sharkova will premiere a multi-movement work titled We Are the Garden, created by Hagen in collaboration with longtime collaborator Penelope Freeh.
Freeh and Hagen create hybrid dance/music pieces that illuminate each others work, challenge performers and expand expectations of the relationship between these mediums.
We Are the Garden features a libretto crafted by Hagen from a diverse selection of beautiful poems by Minnesota writer Joyce Sidman.
