Description

mirabai, a professional-level women’s chamber ensemble under the direction of Sandra Snow, is thrilled to present its inaugural recording.

Ecstatic Songs showcases a commission by ASCAP award-winning composer David Brunner and features highly acclaimed soprano, Lindsay Kesselman. The work utilizes the words of the ensemble’s namesake, Mirabai, a 16th-century mystic and poet, as she explores her devotion to Krishna. The project also contains works by 17th-century female composers, contemporary American composers Abbie Betinis, Andrea Clearfield, and Andrea Ramsey, among others, with texts that explore the rich emotional terrain of women’s lives.

Snow founded the ensemble in order to enhance the artistic expectations of women’s choral singing by connecting powerful music of women, past and present; and performing, commissioning, and recording new and innovative music.
