What the Soul Already Knows

What the Soul Already Knows is a large-scale symphonic work that seeks to awaken both mind and spirit to the sacredness of the world we inhabit—and the world within ourselves. At its core, this piece is a meditation on our shared humanity and the potential for beauty that arises when we live in alignment with gratitude, unity, and service.

We Are the Lucky Ones

Exploring the themes of fortune and desire through Freya Manfred’s poem “In a Sad Time What Do I Desire?” and Julia Klatt Singer’s “Our Bodies Mostly Water.” Musically, Jocelyn embraced a rondo form to depict the ever-changing nature of fortune, incorporating sudden shifts as reminders of life’s unpredictability.

We Are the Garden

We Are the Garden takes the audience on a dramatic and elemental journey through the natural world, exploring FireWaterAirEarth, and Humanity through the vivid poetry of Joyce Sidman. With a vibrant blend of rhythmic drive, lyrical beauty, and emotional depth, this five-movement work gives voice to the forces that shape our lives and the world around us.

Songs for Muska

This evening-length work centers on the plight of the women of Afghanistan. The beautiful and often heart-breaking poetry by these women sheds light on their daily life. This dramatic work was commissioned by Conspirare and premiered in Austin, Texas, in 2019.

What would happen to the world if, despite our cultural differences, we all believed in this: then ecessity of love and compassion towards every living thing on earth? What if we all came to the conclusion that, as St. Thomas Aquinas avows, we are all “madly in love with the same God?”

Ashes of Roses

Ashes of Roses is a sacred requiem that marks the beginning of Jocelyn’s journey as
a composer. Originally composed as a senior at St. Olaf College, it premiered in 2003
with a student-led choir and orchestra but remained incomplete. In 2014, she was
commissioned to expand the work, adding the Dies Irae and Agnus Dei, completing
its vision. This piece continues to be performed, a testament to its enduring
significance and Jocelyn’s emerging compositional voice.

Instrumentation: SATB div. choir, Soprano, Mezzo-Soprano, and Baritone soloists, soprano saxophone solo, and full orchestra. Also available for organ and flexible chamber ensemble.
