Hands (For Brass Ensemble)

Hands was originally commissioned for SATB a cappella choir with choreography by the International Federation of Choral Music for the World Choral Symposium in Barcelona, Spain (July 2017). Soloists and choir are to sing on neutral syllables throughout, decided upon by the conductor.

Regarding choreography, instrumentalists can experiment with small amounts of movement if they’d like to try it and it fits their space. Surrounding the audience and moving beyond the stage break the wall between performers and audience, and that is encouraged.

The world premiere of this version with brass took place with the Minneapolis Brass Ensemble, Seth Davis, conductor, on February 15, 2025 at the MMEA Conference in Minneapolis, MN.
