Description
In the Lavender Stillness of Dawn is a perfect fit for high school and college age women’s choirs. The singers will love the empowering text and the gorgeous ensemble of the piano trio. It has already become a favorite of honor choirs and has been performed in Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center, as well as in Canada, Hong Kong, and Brazil.
This piece was commissioned by the Flower Mound High School Women’s Choir, under the direction of Dr. Mark Rohwer. Hagen sent the choir a number of different poems for them to choose from, and they selected this one, a new poem by the composer’s cousin, Meggan Tavel.
Performed by The University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire Women’s Concert Chorale, directed by Dr. Frank A. Watkins.
Text
Drifting on the edge of a dream
Dancing on the tail of a song
Swimming in a sea of violet soft clouds
In the lavender stillness of dawn
The quiet of the night does fade
As the first of the morning birds wake
From the spark of day shines a ray of hope
For this day is mine to make.
-Meggan Tavel
